Anno, when I did a shorter than 9 months break previously, also was surprised to notice the symptom, that after the restart 1.5 months ago, my performance has been enhanced: I can easily do many exercises with 10-15 kg heavier weights, without any difficulties.
I believe the professional answer goes to a man called Mr. Darwin: by time the body learns how to adapt in the most optimal way - so after the nth occasion there isn't enough stimulation anymore to step forward.
So it's recommended, myself also revisioned my gym plan and shall put an occasional 2-3 weeks longer break into the schedule.
